The project highlights the philanthropic activities carried out by hotels and lodging properties in California each year, beginning with the 2023 calendar year.
Analyzing data on philanthropic activities by hotels in California, the following are estimates of total contributions in California by hotels in 2023.
in the form of cash, in-kind, fundraising, scholarship, and food drive donations.
for activities ranging from beach clean-ups to blood drives.
in the form of no-cost workforce trainings to members of the community.

The Hotel Caring Initiative is a project led by the California Hotel and Lodging Association, in partnership with Oxford Economics.
The project was piloted in San Diego early in 2024 before being expanded to include more regions in the state. In 2025, the project will be expanded to include more states: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, and Massachusetts. For more information, please email ofahmy@oxfordeconomics.com.
